Jazz-Read-a-Thon

Each year the school I teach at enters a reading contest sponsored by the local NBA, the Jazz. We have done this for 8 years and won a Jazz player for 7 years. The top 10 schools out of all who participate who have the most minutes read per student, win a Jazz player visiting their school, and a great ice cream party. This year we want to win again. We feel this contest promotes reading and makes a huge difference in the literacy level of our students.

This year I was part of the committee over this contest. We decided to really have fun with it. Everyone was told to dress up as a book character. Teachers and students really got into this. Can you guess who we are? Mine is a little tricky. I am Katniss Everdeen, the main character in the Hunger Games Series, the girl on fire. I even have a real mockingjay pin. Michelle, good friend and co-worker, received one when she bought all of the books. We also put together a little number to get the kids excited a geared up to read and read some more. Enjoy the video of us making compete fools of ourselves.

So I am truly embarrassed to show this, but we had fun!
